AI Monitoring Tools: Comparison of Otterly, Peec, and ZipTie

TL;DR

Otterly.ai is the most mature tool and the best starting point for AI visibility monitoring. Peec AI offers the deepest source analysis. ZipTie is the most ambitious with its unified SEO + AI approach but is still maturing. For an SME, Otterly is sufficient. For a scale-up with serious stakes, combining Otterly + Peec covers all angles. These tools are to AI visibility what Semrush is to classic SEO: essential for measuring what you cannot see any other way.

Imagine managing your Google SEO without ever checking your rankings. Absurd, right? Yet that is exactly what 95% of businesses do with their AI visibility in 2026. They invest in content, schema markup, AEO optimization... without ever checking whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini mention them.

AI visibility monitoring is a new category of tools that emerged in 2024 and reached maturity in 2025-2026. Three players dominate the European market. We use them daily at AISOS and this comparison is based on that hands-on experience.

Dashboards of the three AI monitoring tools: Otterly, Peec, and ZipTie
The three dashboards compared: different approaches to AI visibility monitoring.

Why AI monitoring is essential in 2026

According to a Pew Research Center Europe study (2025), 32% of B2B professionals now use an LLM (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini) at least once a week for professional purchasing decisions. In the tech and consulting segments, this figure rises to 55%.

If a third of your potential prospects ask an AI "what is the best [your category]?" and you are not in the answer, you have a problem. And you cannot even know you have that problem without a monitoring tool.

AI monitoring tools answer 3 questions:

  • Are you cited in LLM responses for your key queries?
  • How do your citations evolve over time?
  • Who are the competitors being cited instead of you?

Otterly.ai in detail

Otterly.ai is the tool we recommend first. Its approach is straightforward: you define a list of queries (the questions your clients ask LLMs), and Otterly submits them regularly to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude. For each response, it detects whether your brand is cited, at what position, and in what context.

Strengths:

  • Most intuitive interface of the three
  • Clear and actionable AI Visibility Score
  • Exploitable citation history (evolution over time)
  • Competitive analysis: see who is cited in your place
  • Responsive support (team based in Berlin)

Limitations:

  • Price scales quickly with query volume (beyond 200 queries, it gets expensive)
  • No source analysis (does not explain WHY you are cited or not)
  • Claude monitoring is less reliable than ChatGPT and Perplexity monitoring

Andrea Volpini, CEO of WordLift based in Rome and semantic SEO expert: "Otterly understood that AI monitoring needs to be as simple as tracking Google rankings. That is exactly what the market was missing."

Peec AI in detail

Peec AI takes the opposite approach: instead of monitoring LLM responses, it analyzes the sources LLMs consume to identify your mentions. It is like the difference between looking at Google results (Otterly) and looking at Google's index (Peec).

Strengths:

  • Deep analysis of sources that feed LLMs
  • Explains WHY you are cited (or not): which sources, what context
  • Detection of negative mentions and misinformation
  • Optimization recommendations based on source analysis

Limitations:

  • More complex interface, longer learning curve
  • More expensive than Otterly for equivalent usage
  • Limited competitive analysis (focused on your own brand)
  • No Mistral or Claude monitoring

Peec AI is ideal as a complement to Otterly: Otterly tells you "you are not cited for this query", Peec tells you "and here is why, and here is what your competitor cited in your place is doing".

ZipTie in detail

ZipTie is the newest and most ambitious. Its promise: a unified dashboard that combines classic Google ranking tracking, AI visibility monitoring, and backlink analysis. All in one tool.

Strengths:

  • Unified SEO + AI view in a single dashboard
  • Monitoring of 5 LLMs (including Mistral, relevant for French-speaking markets)
  • Competitive pricing for the features offered
  • Webhooks for integration with other tools
  • French team (native French-language support)

Limitations:

  • Still a young product: some bugs and instabilities
  • Google ranking data is less reliable than Semrush/Ahrefs
  • Backlink analysis is superficial
  • API in beta, not yet production-ready

ZipTie is one to watch. Its unified approach is the right direction, but execution has not yet reached the level of specialized leaders. For a French or Belgian SME that wants a single affordable tool covering both worlds, it is an interesting option.

FAQ

What is an AI monitoring tool used for?

An AI monitoring tool measures your presence in LLM responses (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini). It answers the question: "when my clients ask an AI questions about my industry, is my company cited?" It is the equivalent of Google rank tracking, but for AI response engines.

Can you monitor AI visibility for free?

Yes, manually. Define 20 key queries, submit them to ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini each month, and record results in a spreadsheet. It is time-consuming (2-3 hours per month) but free. Paid tools automate this process and add history and competitive analysis.

What is the difference between Otterly and Peec AI?

Otterly monitors LLM responses (the visible result). Peec AI analyzes the sources LLMs consume (the invisible input). Otterly tells you IF you are cited. Peec tells you WHY you are cited or not. Both approaches are complementary.

Do LLM results change often?

Yes, much more than Google results. ChatGPT and Perplexity responses can vary from day to day for the same query. That is why monitoring must be regular (weekly at minimum) and based on trends, not one-off measurements.

Do I need an AI monitoring tool in addition to Semrush/Ahrefs?

Yes. Semrush and Ahrefs do not monitor AI visibility (citations in LLMs). They cover Google SEO. An AI monitoring tool is a necessary complement, not a replacement. Read our Semrush vs Ahrefs comparison for the classic SEO side.

How many queries should you monitor?

Start with 20 to 50 queries corresponding to the questions your clients ask LLMs (not SEO keywords, but conversational questions). Increase gradually as you identify new relevant queries. For most B2B SMEs, 100 to 200 queries cover the essentials.

Does Google Search Console cover AI monitoring?

Partially. Since late 2025, GSC shows data related to Google AI Overviews (the AI-generated result at the top of the page). But it does not cover ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, or Claude. For comprehensive monitoring, you need a dedicated tool. Read our GSC guide to leverage this feature.
